The winter of a wedding videomaker is fundamentally “training”. For years I have been using this period to study, research, explore the web in search of new and innovative courses for videomakers all over Europe, where to learn new techniques and improve skills and then restart the new wedding season, with different ideas and creative inspiration.

Also this winter I am dedicating it to training, but from a different prospective. They asked me to be  “the teacher” in a workshop, again after the experience of a few months ago in Serbia. And when it comes to traveling, I am always on the first line. I flew to Eastern Europe, to Romania, to a post-Communist European capital, the city of Iasi. A place where you can breathe a fresh air of art and culture. A metropolis that hosts the oldest university in the nation, with a surprising number of Orthodox churches, most of them built in the “golden plateau”: the historical center of the city.

The videomaking course was held in two days, on December 14th and 15th, and was completely dedicated to the making of a wedding video. The workshop was organized by two Romanian videomakers: Vutcariov Dima and John Str. A course dedicated only to professionals of the field.

The world of videomaker courses is now exploding. More and more people are talking about wedding films, wedding cinema, inspiration wedding. I’m sure that the work of a videomaker (I’m talking about it in this interview) can’t be a simple imitate the works of other good colleagues. Everything must start from a work of research on oneself, on one’s own style. Only in this way you can give life to stories that speak the language of emotions.

Wedding film is a unique type of narrative that combines reportage, storytelling and art. Sharing ideas, ways of thinking and different storytelling techniques are the key to growing up and getting great final works.

The exchange of opinions, experiences, mistakes with colleagues present at the workshop was fundamental to give importance to this intense two days of meetings. I was really pleased to share with all of them my experience and part of my background.

It was really an exciting experience, full of content and moments dedicated to shooting and editing. It was great to work (in preview) with a jewel of technology like the new Panasonic Lumix S1h, which our friends from Fowa Italia provided us with!

Now I’m going to enjoy the heat of my home in Cisternino, in my Puglia. I wish you all a merry Christmas.
