Wedding videographer in Tuscany at Borgo di Pietrafitta

Wedding videographer in Tuscany at Borgo di Pietrafitta, in the Chianti hills.

One of those wedding venues in Tuscany that look like they came straight out of a movie. And I’ve seen plenty of movies, trust me, so it’s not easy for me to get excited before even arriving, just by looking at a place on Google.

I had never been there before.

Then I arrived, and I had to change my mind. It was even more beautiful than I had imagined.

Rosie and Stefan from Australia: a wedding in Tuscany.

Every time I work on a destination wedding with couples travelling from one side of the world to the other, I stop for a second and think about it.

Rosie and Stefan took a twenty-four-hour flight — at least — left everything behind, crossed oceans and time zones, to get married here. In Italy. In Chianti.

It takes a strong kind of certainty to do something like that. It’s not a whim, and it’s not just because “Tuscany is beautiful” — anyone who has ever seen a photo can understand that part. It’s something more personal, almost visceral. As if this place was calling them.

When I met Rosie and Stefan, I understood straight away that they were like that: people who, when they decide something, truly decide it.

The light at a wedding in Tuscany always feels different.

I’m obsessed with natural light.

My colleagues know it, and my couples figure it out pretty quickly. I have a real addiction to the way light changes in the last two hours before sunset — that golden, warm kind of light that, in Tuscany, turns into something almost supernatural.

That day at Borgo di Pietrafitta, the light was extraordinary.

The kind of light that makes you want to drop everything and film weddings for the rest of your life. Which is exactly what I do, so it all makes sense 🙂

During the ceremony of that destination wedding in Tuscany, I paused more than usual. I let the shots breathe and allowed the camera to do almost everything on its own.

When you have light like that, and a couple like that, your job is mainly not to ruin it.

Il luxury wedding in Toscana

An elegant wedding. But not in the way you might imagine.

When people talk about a luxury wedding in Italy, there’s always the risk that everything turns into a parade of aesthetics. Beautiful, yes, but cold. A catalogue of beautiful things rather than a real story.

This wasn’t like that.

Yes, the flowers, of Sartoria Floreale were something from another time. Yes, Tiamo Photography did the kind of work I still stop and look at even now. And Italy in Love Weddings orchestrated everything with that quiet precision great planners have — the kind where everything works perfectly, and no one quite understands how.

But what stayed with me were the moments in between.

Stefan taking a deep breath before the doors opened. Rosie laughing at something her bridesmaid had said, one second before becoming serious again. Those five seconds when they looked at each other and the world around them stopped existing. And then the party under the stars. Australian families and local friends coming together in that chaotic, beautiful way that only destination weddings in Tuscany can create.

Rosie and Stefan danced, laughed, raised their glasses.Today, they are thousands of kilometres away. But every time they watch their film, they are back in Chianti. And that’s why I love this job.
